It is not something you will particularly have to invest in PTCGL code cards and trade credits, in order to be able to afford competitive decks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It sounds a lot of fun and brings variety to the game. Let&#8217;s dive right in!!! \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd0d What Is the Gym Leader Challenge Format?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Gym Leader Challenge (GLC)<\/strong> format is a community-created singleton format inspired by the gym leaders of the Pok\u00e9mon world. It has been created by Andrew Mahone, aka. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@TrickyGym\">Trick Gym<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deck Rules:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Uses <strong>only one type<\/strong> (e.g., Water, Psychic, Fighting)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contains <strong>no duplicate cards<\/strong>, except for basic Energy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only includes <strong>non-Rule Box Pok\u00e9mon<\/strong> (no V, VMAX, EX, etc.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Allows <strong>cards from expanded format <\/strong>to be played, but still PTCGL only supports Sun &amp; Moon and later.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This creates a highly <strong>strategic and diverse<\/strong> environment where smart deck-building and clever plays matter more than brute force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Decks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The problem with finding good GLC deck lists comes from the <strong>lack of support in PTCGL for all GLC legal cards.<\/strong> The few decks I tried from <a href=\"https:\/\/cardboardwarriors.net\/\">cardboardwarriors.net<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/play.limitlesstcg.com\/decks?format=glc\">Limitless GLC tournaments<\/a> all had unimplemented cards in them, and they seemed pretty important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is not much out yet by PTCGL content creators. A <a href=\"https:\/\/decks.4tcg.live\/search?text=GLC\"><strong>search for the keyword GLC on decks.4tcg.live<\/strong><\/a> will show you what is out there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is a <strong>great video by GLC TV about PTCGL playable GLC decks<\/strong>. This has been patched without a client downtime. I did not manage to try it, but it looks like a fun card to play either way (discarding 13 cards of your opponent and dealing 60 damage per Pok\u00e9mon discarded). \ud83c\udfd6\ufe0f<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full wp-duotone-unset-1\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"245\" height=\"342\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.codes4tcg.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/SM7_EN_82.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3491\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.codes4tcg.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/SM7_EN_82.png 245w, https:\/\/cdn.codes4tcg.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/SM7_EN_82-215x300.png 215w, https:\/\/cdn.codes4tcg.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/SM7_EN_82-50x70.png 50w, https:\/\/cdn.codes4tcg.live\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/SM7_EN_82-9x12.png 9w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 245px) 100vw, 245px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, at least in German, PTCGL still states cards from XY and up being legal. I hope we are getting those old sets at some point&#8230; it limits expanded and now even GLC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Future<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Imagine the <a href=\"https:\/\/raidformat.com\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/raidformat.com\/\"><strong>Raid Format<\/strong><\/a> or others from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pokemon.com\/static-assets\/content-assets\/cms2-de-de\/pdf\/trading-card-game\/tcg-alternative-play-handbook-de.pdf\"><strong>Pokemon Alternative Play Handbook<\/strong><\/a> being implemented. There is so much that a Pokemon card game client could achieve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Imagine <strong>teaming up with a buddy in a 2v2 or cooperating 4v1 against the AI<\/strong>.<br><strong>Pack battles<\/strong> would sound a lot of fun too: Redeem 4 packs of any set and battle against another player who just did the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>GLC is also not too far from <strong>Budget Build Battles<\/strong> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@TripleBtcg\">TripleBTCG<\/a>, a canadian who lives in Australia. You absolutely have to check out his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/@TripleBtcg\">Youtube channel<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.twitch.tv\/triplebtcg\">Twitch streams<\/a>, if you are into off meta decks or interested in different formats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"How to Play Budget Build Battles! I know it is not perfect and we all like to call it names. Even if PTCGL would be replaced, Pokemon seems years away from a good replacement.
